Security checks at UK airports could become more efficient with the development of a new camera which can perform a virtual strip search. The new technology would allow security staff to see through people’s clothing to judge whether they are carrying weapons, explosives or any other items that could put other passenger at risk on a flight. The camera can ‘see’ a distance of up to 80 ft and may be deployed in airports and other busy hubs.Known as the T5000 system, it was originally designed for space craft but it is likely to find better use by customs officials.
