The sooner we begin, the sooner we may say along with Sam’s old Gaffer, “All’s well that ends better!” McConnell may be right—indeed, he may continue to do damage even as we work to correct it—but we must undertake it just the same. And Tolkien provides us with insight into the way that work must be accomplished: with determination, but also with compassion. Frodo, as leader of the free hobbits, forbids violence against his fellow hobbits “even if they have gone over to the other side. Really gone over, I mean, not just obeying … because they are frightened.” He cautions that “it is useless to meet revenge with revenge: It will heal nothing.” Compare this to Joe Biden: “We must stop treating our opponents as our enemy. We are not enemies. We are Americans.” Like Trump’s MAGA minions, Saruman’s thugs—hobbit, half orc, and human alike—demand respect but deserve none. What they do deserve, Frodo knows, is the chance to change—with consequences if they choose not to. “Do not kill him even now,” he instructs Sam after the disgraced Wizard has just attempted to stab him with a dagger. “He was great once, of a noble kind … He is fallen and his cure is beyond us, but I would still spare him, in the hope that he may find it.” But Saruman’s pride, like Trump’s, prevents conversion. “All my hopes are ruined,” he tells Galadriel in an earlier chapter, “but I would not share yours.” And Frodo has no compunctions about driving him and his henchmen out of town—as we must have none about driving out the recalcitrant Trump and his goons if they refuse to go in peace. When first apprised of Sauron’s fall and the success of the Quest, Sam wonders, “Is everything sad going to come untrue?” In “The Scouring of the Shire,” Tolkien has Sam provide his own answer: “I shan’t call it the end,” he says, “till we’ve cleared up the mess. And that’ll take a lot of time and work.” That work is now our work. To quote Joe Biden, “The work of making this vision real is the task of our time.” – Advertisement – Nor have we rid ourselves of the scourge of Trumpism. On the contrary, Trumpists still occupy the top positions in government and have not acceded to the lawful transfer of power. High-level elected officials remain complicit. Trump loyalists have been installed in our judiciary and our career civil service. Armed militias threaten violence. And millions of our fellow citizens have thrown their lot in with the corrupt and immoral Trump regime. Tolkien understood that the aftermath of evil is not sudden good, but rather a long, hard, unglamorous slog towards normalcy and decency. And he understood that even this menial work would face resistance from the spiteful vanquished. “I have already done much that you will find it hard to mend or undo,” smirks Sharkey/Saruman to Frodo upon realizing he is defeated. Compare this to Mitch McConnell upon the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court: “A lot of what we’ve done over the last four years will be undone sooner or later by the next election. They won’t be able to do much about this for a long time to come.” – Advertisement – – Advertisement –

The 59-year-old’s side also trailed before getting past Lazio 2-1 in the season opener in Rome last weekend.AC Milan were playing their first match of the season after their game against Genoa was postponed because of the bridge disaster in the port city. But it was to be a bitter defeat for Milan coach Gattuso, 40, who played under Ancelotti when the latter was in charge of AC Milan, winning the Champions League together in 2007.Ancelotti praised the “great desire … to fight back vehemently,” by his side.“I have a fond memory of all my former players, but with Gattuso there is something special.“It’s a wonderful evening, one full of emotions for me.“Milan hadn’t really given many signs of being dangerous in attack, but surprised us with two goals.“It was very difficult in that situation, then we changed system and the crowd pushed us on to turn it around.”Ancelotti spent most of his career at AC Milan, winning three Serie A and four European titles as a player and coach with the northern giants. His last coaching job in Italy — before nine trophy-laden years abroad at clubs including Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich — was at the helm of Milan.AC Milan were playing their first match of the season after their game against Genoa was postponed because of the bridge disaster in the port city.Gattuso had said it was his dream to defeat his old “maestro” as Ancelotti had done as AC Milan coach over two decades ago beating his former boss Arrigo Sacchi’s Parma.“It hurts me to play so well at the San Paolo and then emerge empty-handed. Director Rambala, who was instrumental in shaping the career of actor Santhanam via television comedy series Lollu Sabha, says everyone is in for a surprise since Santhanam has gone through a complete makeover for their upcoming film Dhilluku Dhuddu.”All those who have watched Santhanam so far and have created an image of him are in for a pleasant surprise. He will stun audiences in dance and action sequences. In one of the action scenes, Santhanam fights in his suit and it will be a treat to watch,” told IANS.”So far in his acting career, he has always been seen sporting a clean shaven look and wearing any costume that he would be handed over. I wanted to break that monotony, and therefore, suggested a complete makeover for Santhanam,” he added.Santhanam was excited to experiment with his looks.”He has always been willing to try different things. We wanted him to have a rugged look, so we made him grow a beard like Virat Kohli. We hired a costume designer and gave him a stylish makeover. He even wore suits,” he said, adding the film explores a different dimension of Santhanam.Talking about Santhanam and his growth. The director said that the fame has not changed his erstwhile protege. “I’ve known him for 15 years. Despite his phenomenal rise as an actor, nothing about him has changed. Thanks to his helping tendency, so many artistes from Lollu Sabha have been employed on this project. I take pride in being known as his guru,” Rambala said.advertisementSanthanam’s helpful nature paved the way to Dhilukku Dhuddu, which releases in cinemas on Thursday.”In 2013, I was approached by a producer with an offer. Apparently, another director who worked for 20 days on the project left unannounced and the producer wanted me to fill his position. I wanted to hire a new set of actors, but the producer was not happy with the idea. Eventually, we had a fallout and I left the project,” he said.Around the same time, Rambala met Santhanam and explained his situation.”I readied another script for Santhanam, which he liked and immediately gave his consent to work together. Since we have known each other for a long time, he wanted to give me the perfect launchpad, and hence, spoke to producer Murali and brought Sri Thenandal Films on board,” he said.Tipped to be a spoof on horror comedies, the film also stars newbie Shanaya, apart from Saurabh Shukla and Yogi Babu.”Most horror films are about haunted mansions, revenge and some humour. We have attempted something different within the horror space and we believe audiences will appreciate it. This is a horror film with a twist,” he added.
