Avoid this double threat to your car insurance premium!

first_img I’m sure you’ll agree that’s quite the statement from Motley Fool Co-Founder Tom Gardner. But since our US analyst team first recommended shares in this unique tech stock back in 2016, the value has soared. What’s more, we firmly believe there’s still plenty of upside in its future. In fact, even throughout the current coronavirus crisis, its performance has been beating Wall St expectations. And right now, we’re giving you a chance to discover exactly what has got our analysts all fired up about this niche industry phenomenon, in our FREE special report, A Top US Share From The Motley Fool. Your car insurance premium is about more than just your age, driving experience and claim history. One thing you may not have considered that could have an effect on your insurance is your tyre tread. Sure enough, if the tread is below a certain level and you’re in an accident, your insurance company might not pay out your claim. But there’s more to your tyre tread than just the refusal of a claim. If you drive with a set of four faulty tyres, you could face a fine of up to £10,000. According to Quotezone.co.uk, however, this is not the worst of it. Apparently, it can also mean up to 12 points on your licence, which would mean losing it altogether. 5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…How you’re fined and docked Each faulty tyre can result in a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points on your driving licence. If a second tyre falls below the limits allowed by law, the fine and the penalty points double.  How long it affects your car insurance premium While the penalty points expire after four years, you have to disclose them to insurance companies for a minimum of five years. Non-disclosure could result in your insurance company cancelling your policy or refusing to honour claims. According to Greg Wilson, founder of Quotezone.co.uk, “While the complexity of insurance premium calculations makes it impossible to put a pounds-and-pence figure on it, on average, three penalty points could result in a 5% jump in a driver’s car insurance premium, while six penalty points could see the cost of their insurance rise by an eye-watering 25%.”Long-term risks First and foremost, 12 points on your licence will result in a six-month driving ban, which could significantly impact many aspects of your daily life.Even after you’ve completed your ban, you may find that your driving history has a serious impact on the cost of your car insurance. The pool of insurers willing to insure a driver with 12 penalty points on their record is likely to shrink siginficantly. The larger, well-known insurers will be less inclined to insure you, leaving expensive specialist insurers as your only option to get back on the road. Prevention is better than regret for a well-priced car insurance premiumMotoring charity TyreSafe promotes tyre safety, and in 2016 surveyed 340,000 replaced tyres. A whopping 27% of them were illegal due to inadequate tread. Not only is it important to keep an eye on your tyres, but it’s also important to source them from a reputable agent. A set of four new Michelin CrossClimate+ tyres can start from as little as £440 per set, which is a far cry less than a potential fine of £10,000 and all the legal drama that comes with it. It’s also important to keep an eye on your spare, as deflation, damage, and wear are common issues. Not only will you enjoy better road safety, but you’ll also improve your chances of a decent car insurance premium.  Your car insurance premium is about more than just your age, driving experience and claim history. Enter Your Email Address Our 6 ‘Best Buys Now’ Sharescenter_img One FTSE “Snowball Stock” With Runaway Revenues It would be a fair statement to say BT (LSE:BT.A) shares have performed poorly for a few years now. Based on past performance and a slight resurgence in the past calendar year to date, could I consider the BT share price as a FTSE 100 opportunity for my portfolio? Let’s take a look.BT share price on the up in 2021Five years ago the BT share price was 431p, which means it has dropped 59% based on current levels. The Covid-19 pandemic and ensuing market crash last year saw its share price drop from 154p per share to 100p per share.5G is here – and shares of this ‘sleeping giant’ could be a great way for you to potentially profit!According to one leading industry firm, the 5G boom could create a global industry worth US$12.3 TRILLION out of thin air…And if you click here we’ll show you something that could be key to unlocking 5G’s full potential…As I write, BT shares are trading for 174p a share. This a 28% increase in 2021 to date. So there are signs of life from the FTSE 100 incumbent.3 reasons to be optimistic about the BT share priceFirstly, insiders are buying BT shares, which is always a positive sign in my eyes. CEO Philip Jansen purchased approximately £2m worth of shares last week. Insiders don’t buy stock if they feel performance isn’t on the up. In addition to that, as the CEO, Jansen will have an inside track on developments at the FTSE 100 incumbent.Linked to insiders buying shares, BT’s management as a whole is exuding confidence about future prospects. In the full-year results for the year ended 31 March, management noted that a few uncertainties and barriers (such as a pension valuation and the Wholesale Fixed Telecoms Market Review) had been removed. These had been affecting performance and contributing to the dwindling BT share price. Management is predicting consistent and predictable growth. There is no guarantee that predicted growth is achieved, although the confidence is good to hear. Finally, broker sentiment towards BT has improved recently. In one of the most recent examples, Barclays decided to raise its price target to 190p from 170p. At current levels, this could be the right prediction on Barclays’ part.FTSE 100 opportunity or one to avoid?I believe the BT share price is currently quite cheap. As is BT’s overall valuation. It has a price-to-earnings ratio of eight, which is below the FTSE 100 average of nearly 17. I think that if BT’s plans and optimism come to fruition, its value will increase.I do have some serious reservations when it comes to BT shares. Firstly, it has over £17bn worth of debt. Debt levels are something I refer to when looking to make investment decisions. In addition to debt, BT hasn’t actually been very profitable which makes me believe this debt will weigh down the BT share price and its overall investment viability. Its return on capital employed (ROCE) is very low for the past three years.Overall, I would not buy BT shares for my own portfolio, despite the cheap valuation. I wouldn’t class BT as a quality company to invest my hard-earned cash in right now, and I believe there are better stocks out there right now. Free Khalida Jarrar!

first_imgIn advance of International Women’s Day on March 8, Israel sentenced one of Palestine’s most prominent women to two years in prison, in a military court wherein no evidence could be presented against her except her affiliation with an outlawed political organization.Khalida Jarrar, a senior leader in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Marxist-Leninist organization, was arrested in her home in October 2019. Israel has imprisoned her since then without charge or trial, under their “administrative detention” protocols, which are reserved only for Palestinians, part of a legal apartheid system in which multiple tiers of law apply to citizens based on their religion and location.Khalida Jarrar, senior leader in the Popular Front for the Liberation of PalestineAdministrative detention allows Israel to imprison whomever it wants for three-to six-month periods, which can be renewed indefinitely. Detainees do not have a right to know the accusations or evidence leveled against them, nor can they appeal.Israel has repeatedly imprisoned Jarrar through this apartheid system. In fact, when she was arrested in October 2019, she had only been out of administrative detention for nine months. Prior to that, she was jailed without charge or trial for 20 months.Women in Israeli prisons often report persistent humiliation and sexual abuse, typically by female Israeli guards, as well as other physical and psychological abuse and neglect. The latest arrest comes just as Palestinians are preparing for long-awaited national elections, which have not taken place since 2006.Prisoner rights organization Addameer reports at least 440 Palestinians have been detained since January, of whom 140 are children; 37 are women; and 9 are elected legislative members, bringing the total number of political prisoners to 4,500.Without a hint of irony, Israel has criticized Saudi Arabia’s arrest of women political activists. The author of this essay is a Palestinian writer, whose latest novel is “Against the Loveless World,” Atria, 2020FacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmailPrintMoreShare thisFacebookTwitterWhatsAppEmailPrintMoreShare thislast_img read more

Omaha preview: New and old opponents for Frogs

first_imgFacebook Twitter Twitter TCU rowing program strengthens after facing COVID-19 setbacks Jocelyn Sittonhttps://www.tcu360.com/author/jocelyn-sitton/ Linkedin Jocelyn Sittonhttps://www.tcu360.com/author/jocelyn-sitton/ printQuick, count how many schools have been to each of the last three College World Series championships in Omaha.Don’t put too much thought into it, now. There’s just one — the TCU Horned Frogs, led by head coach Jim Schlossnagle.“Regardless of how many times you come, I mean, this is the pearly gates of college baseball,” Schlossnagle said Friday. “It never gets routine.”The 2014 and 2015 squads were largely comprised of the same core group of players, but this year was supposed to be a rebuilding season for TCU.“This particular team, we have an entirely, for the most part, new club,” Schlossnagle said. “This is not a position, I don’t think, people expected us to be in.”With all the new faces on the team, the Frogs will have to trust their stellar freshmen to keep the emotions of Omaha in check.“I think we’re going through some of that first-time trip stuff with a lot of our players,” Schlossnagle said. “So we’ve tried to set up a good structure for everybody. But at the end of the day the players are the ones who have to handle it.”TCU will open against Texas Tech on Sunday at 2 p.m. Jared Janczak, a redshirt freshman who earned the win last Friday against Texas A&M, will start for the Frogs. The other game on the Frogs’ side of the bracket will feature Florida and Coastal Carolina, who knocked off LSU in an upset. Here’s a look at the teams TCU will need to beat in order to make it to the championship series for the first time in school history.Texas TechThe Red Raiders have emerged as one of TCU’s main baseball rivals over the course of the past few years, and this season was no exception. Texas Tech won the series against the Frogs 2-1 at Lupton Stadium this year on a weekend that saw some of the largest crowds in TCU baseball history.Offensively, Tech is led by Eric Gutierrez and Tyler Nesloney, who have combined to hit 22 home runs and 116 RBIs this season. Stephen Smith also adds pop, with 10 home runs to his name this year.Steven Gingery will start on the mound against TCU, according to head coach Tim Tadlock. Gingery has a 4-2 record in 13 starts this year with a 3.25 ERA.Gingery threw 4 innings against TCU earlier this season, giving up just one run. The Frogs got to the bullpen quickly and scored 7 runs in the fifth inning, winning that game 13-6.FloridaThe Gators come into the tournament as the No. 1 overall seed in the country. Florida rolled through the year with a 19-10 conference record and a staggering 33-4 out-of-conference record.Peter Alonso is the most dangerous player on the Gators’ roster, with a .373 batting average, 13 home runs, and 58 RBIs. JJ Schwarz also adds timely hitting — although his average is just .295, he leads the team with 60 RBIs on the season.Logan Shore, one of the best pitchers in the country, will start the CWS for Florida on Sunday. In 17 starts, Shore has a 12-0 record and a 2.24 ERA.Shore’s last start was against Florida State in the final game of the Gainesville Super Regional last Sunday, when he threw 8 innings of shutout ball with 9 strikeouts, allowing just 2 hits.TCU will likely not see Shore this week. The Frogs should consider themselves lucky.Coastal CarolinaThe Chanticleers pulled off one of two stunning Super Regional upsets this year, along with UC-Santa Barbara. Coastal Carolina took a 3-game series from LSU in Baton Rouge, and advanced to the College World Series for the first time in school history.Still, CCU should not be overlooked. They went 21-3 in the Big South Conference, and were 49-16 overall.Zach Remillard poses the most potent offensive threat for the Chanticleers, with a .347 batting average, 69 RBIs, and 17 home runs on the season. Michael Paez, Connor Owings, and G.K. Young also have 15 or more home runs each.Andrew Beckwith will start Sunday’s game against Florida. Beckwith has compiled a 12-1 record in 23 appearances and 7 starts, with a 2.12 ERA. The Stahlbaum children, Clara and Fritz are eager for the guests to arrive. The party grows more festive and both the children and their parents begin to dance when Clara’s mysterious godfather, Drosselmeyer, arrives. He brings life-sized dolls, toys for the children, and a beautiful nutcracker for Clara. As the evening winds down and the guests begin to leave, the Stahlbaum family retires to bed. Clara sneaks back to the Christmas tree to retrieve her nutcracker. When the clock strikes midnight, the magic unfolds. Clara begins to shrink and is caught in a battle between an army of toy soldiers led by her beloved nutcracker and an evil army of mice. It seems as if the mouse king will defeat the nutcracker. Clara throws her shoe to distract the enemy, giving the nutcracker a chance to win.Clara is whisked away by the snow king and queen to the land of the sweets. In Act Two, she meets the sugar plum fairy and cavalier who reward her for her bravery in defeating the mouse king. A celebration of dance begins. Clara is entertained by dancers dressed as Spanish hot chocolate, Arabian coffee, Chinese tea, Russian candy and many others. The story ends with Clara leaving the magical scene to return home for Christmas. The performers:The show’s performers demonstrated both talent and poise. Even the youngest members of the cast acted professionally while on stage. When one young ballerina’s shoe accidently came off in the middle of the dance, the performers continued on as if nothing had happened- an indication of well-trained dancers. The cast was made up of many young performers, who are obviously still learning and growing within their ballet careers. Although their technique may not have been perfect, these tiny dancers demonstrated that a performance does not need to be technically flawless to be entertaining. Their enthusiasm was a positive addition to the performances of the older and more seasoned dancers. The show’s artistic director is Chung-Lin Tseng, who began his artistic career as a figure skater. Photo by Amy Shaw.A few stand-out performers made the show special. Clara (Payton Burdine) and Frtiz (Luke Jones) danced with grace and confidence that were far beyond their years. Clara demonstrated strong technique while dancing on pointe, despite her apparent young age. The Russian couple (Aldrin Vendt and Maria Howard) drew cheers from the audience for their high jumps and energetic kicks. The sugar plum fairy (Kathryn Boren) and cavalier (Paul Adams) wowed everyone with their technique and grace while dancing as a pair and while performing their solos.Unique elements:Within the dances, the show added in bits of humor.Perhaps the most entertaining was the army of evil mice that fight the nutcracker and toy soldiers. The mouse army’s costumes are oversized and clunky, which only added to the mice’s comical performance. The audience laughed as the mice flopped around the stage in an attempt to defeat the opposition. This bit of humor was a fun way to make the show entertaining for those who may not necessarily enjoy a ballet. The show was enhanced by its use of well-designed sets and costumes. The sets were visually stimulating but in no way overwhelming to the eye. From the set of the Christmas party to the land of the sweets, the background only enhanced the dancers’ performances and never detracted from them. The costumes looked professional and authentic, like the of the sugar plum fairy’s tutu, accentuating the performance of Kathryn Boren.Photo by Amy Shaw. Pictured: Kathryn Boren as the sugar plum fairy. There are many ways in which to tell the story of the Nutcracker. Ballet Frontier of Texas created a performance that honored the tradition of the story, but did not seem boring or stuffy. The show was well-directed and well-executed.The performers, both novice and advanced, acted professionally but also showed their passion for ballet.Overall this performance of a holiday classic was entertaining for everyone, not just those who enjoy ballet.Tickets and information can be found here.  Abortion access threatened as restrictive bills make their way through Texas Legislature Linkedinlast_img read more

HSE have stated that mainstreaming work has been ongoing between HSE, parents and mainstream pre-school providers in 2011-12 to accommodate this. Despite our best efforts, we can find little evidence of this having taken place. The letter states that the work carried out in South Donegal will then be used to inform an overall countywide approach to mainstreaming children with disabilities across the county. This indicates the closure of Ballaghderg Special Needs Pre-School– most likely as initially scheduled for 2015.Parents involved in the campaign are understandably disillusioned and greatly saddened by this response. They claim that they feel a sense of abandonment on behalf of themselves and their children. The implications of HSE going ahead with this policy to mainstream children with disabilities, some of whom have severe and complex needs, will have massive consequences for children, parents and mainstream childcare providers across County Donegal. For children with the most complex needs, the only available option will be home care packages, denying them their right to an education. This is a fundamental breech of a child’s right to education to enable him or her to reach their full potential. In these cases, parents of children will receive no respite in terms of caring for their children. The mainstream pre-school sector has not been adequately prepared for this significant transition. There has been no national policy or implementation plan regarding inclusion brought forward by Government that pertains to the early childhood sector.
